IMS is awarded ISO/IEC 27001:2005 security standard
Every business strives for success and excellence in all areas of its operation and this is reflected at Isle of Man Post Office who gained an internationally recognised security management system standard for one of its growing business divisions – Integrated Mailing Solutions.
Integrated Mailing Solutions (IMS) worked hard to achieve accreditation with ISO/IEC 27001:2005 – the world recognised and prestigious data security standard. IMS became the first printing, scanning and mailing specialist in the Isle of Man and Channel Islands to achieve this accreditation - further demonstrating its commitment to providing the most secure environment for its clients and their data.
ISO/IEC 27001:2005 centres on the establishment, maintenance and continuous improvement of an Information Management System. This system demonstrates a company’s technical, physical and environmental security. It also monitors the effectiveness of an incident management process and a robust business continuity plan.
IMS was rigorously tested by an independent audit body - Lloyd’s Register Quality Assurance (LRQA) – management system experts qualified in information security. They ensure the security system and processes a business has in place for dealing with client data are of the highest standard and meet the requirements of the accreditation.
The decision to gain this prestigious accreditation, which only three other companies on the Island hold, came from a desire to demonstrate through a globally renowned standard, that the processes in place in IMS are of the highest standards.
Tony Randle, General Manager IMS, said: “The ISO/IEC 27001:2005 accreditation of IMS’ entire operation is reflective of our ability to understand our customers’ needs and to be confident that any work we undertake is carried out to the highest levels of confidentiality and security. Customers entrust their reputation to us and it is our primary responsibility to protect this. IMS has always taken information security very seriously, the standard recognises that the processes we have in place meet this standard as well as giving our customers complete peace of mind. “
“We know that many of our customers, both on and off the Island, see this accreditation as a pre requisite for outsourcing their data. We wanted to demonstrate that by having an information security management system compliant to ISO/IEC 27001:2005, it ensures security best practices are at the heart of IMS’ core operational processes and systems” he added.
There are many advantages to achieving ISO accreditation most notably customer reassurance and competitive advantage.
Tony said: “Our customers are our prime concern and we are continually trying to offer them the best in terms of service, confidentiality, reliability and value. We are delighted that we are the first company offering printing, scanning and mailing services not just here on the Island but in the Channel Islands too to receive the accreditation.”
Ongoing compliance and monitoring is essential to ensure that IMS continues to comply with the standard. Once a business has been recommended and subsequently awarded the accreditation, it is assessed every six months for the first three years and after that annually. The business also must perform internal audits between these official assessments.
The accreditation has been awarded for all of IMS’ services – mail opening, document management, document scanning, data capture, bespoke printing, fulfilment, mail response, franking and the supply of stationary.
IMS were delighted to have their accreditation certificate presented to them by the Chief Minister Tony Brown MHK at a special IMS open day.
Chairman of Isle of Man Post Office Alan Crowe MLC said: “Our open day provided an excellent opportunity for us to announce our accreditation and to showcase what services are available. We were honoured to have the Chief Minister in attendance to officially present us with our accreditation certificate which we are very proud of.”
Chief Minister Tony Brown MHK said: “Isle of Man Post Office has shown great commitment to its customers in achieving this accreditation and have clearly done well to become the only company of its kind in the Isle of Man to receive it. This enthusiasm to protect client data is highly credible and is an excellent example of the Isle of Man leading the way.”
